Our First Theme of the Year: Around the World in 80 Days

To start off our theme teaching this year, lessons have been based on the Jules Verne novel 'Around the World in 80 Days'. Students have followed the characters' journey through Europe, Africa and Asia so far, and we will be continuing to North America and then the journey home.

Students have explored many different cultures across the world during this half term. They have tried food from Germany, learnt some basic French language and created Egyptian style artwork for the display. Students also listened to and created Indian themed music and researched wildlife and weather around the world.

Other areas covered in this theme included following the timetables and journey times that the characters used and finding out about the Victorian lifestyle, as this is the era in which the book was written. Students particularly enjoyed mapping the journey each week, showing the progression through the different continents.
